12 loaves…5 fish

(Matthew 15:32-38; John 9:4-13)
Jesus sent out his 12 fishermen
To cast their tattered nets
To provide food for the clamoring crowds
Whom he pitied because they were hungry
A search found only 12 loaves of bread
And a small boy’s paltry few fishes
Yet upon asking his father’s kind blessing
Thousands got fed to satisfaction
With plenty…plenty leftover

Take heart, then, you meek ones
You modern-day fishers of men
Too seemingly few in numbers abroad
To catch and feed the world’s billions
Your small nets fling farther than you can see
Your fishhooks attract all those hungering
In the vast pitiful sea of dying mankind
Jesus has shown us and promised ‘don’t worry’
‘Just you feed them…there’s more than enough’
