COBWEBBED

“Then Jehovah said to Satan: “Where have you come from?” Satan answered Jehovah:

“From roving about on the earth and from walking about in it.”       Job 1:7

“Keep your senses, be watchful! Your adversary, the Devil, walks about like a roaring lion,

Seeking to devour someone.”                1 Peter 5:8

COBWEBBED

Have you ever looked closely at a well-formed spider web?

Its whisper-thin filaments stretched invisibly

In an implausible, even beautiful, symmetric grid?

Strands of silkiness taut and uber-strong

And strung among the branches of, say, a tree?

The unwary fly does not see it

Isn’t even aware of that web’s presence in its world

And when snared in its unassuming tendrils

It first makes half-hearted struggles to escape

Unsuccessfully

In fact, its continued struggle

Only tightens the webby restraints

And that fly becomes increasingly

Furtive, frantic….finally resigned

Accepts that the cobbing web is

Inescapable

Is it for no reason, then, that we humans

Have also been lured

Into what we’ve come to know as

WWW dot com

The World Wide WEB?

It is a MATRIX of global proportion

Offering near-instant access to information news

Education friends family other cultures

Sports entertainment online shopping deals

And yet one finds lurking, so to speak

In the shadows of its algorithmic trees

Portals to sheer and unmitigated ugliness

Violent ‘games’, pornography

Mystics and magicians, killers for hire

And all manner of assorted evil

And still, every one of us is snagged

Like swarming flies

Upon the invisible cobwebby barbs

Of the WEB’s electro-radio frequencies

Emissions penetrating our brains

Our hearts…..our very Spirit

DEVOURING us

Distracting us

So that we miss that warning flash of sunlight

Glinting upon the silky lines

And fly too close to its tackiness

Where both those flies

And mankind

Find themselves ensnared
